Scrap Campus Tours

Interested in learning more about the ins and outs of The Scrap? Wondering how donations get from the donor all the way to the sales floor? Book a tour with us! Whether you’re a high school class, business conference, college course, or just a group of like-minded reuse art admirers, we’d love to show you our operation.

We have three different tour options. Please choose which one best fit your interests when filling out the form below. All tours are $50 per group and can accomodate a maximum of 30 people. Tours last between 30 and 45 minutes.

Scrap Nuts, Bolts, and Beginnings (ages 18+)

This tour includes information about Scrap’s journey through the years, from changes in locations to leadership and beyond, as we explore both stores and program areas. We’ll also take a deep dive into the life of a donation, going in-depth about the processes that get donations from the car to the sales floor, and how our mission is woven into that work. This is a great fit for corporate visits, college courses, or any group hoping to learn more about Scrap’s legacy in Durham.

Circular Economy Basics (suitable for ages 12-18)

What makes Scrap scrappy? This is a general tour of the Reuse Arts Center discussing what kinds of materials we save from the landfill and how we use or sell them everyday within the store. We’ll go over create ways to give otherwise discarded items new life and brainstorm uses for objects and materials throughout the store.

Mongo’s Tour (suitable for ages 5-12)

This is a general tour for young attention spans! We’ll cover the different departments within the Reuse Center, talk a bit about our mascot Mongo, and discuss the basics of reuse art and what Scrap Magic means to us. Pairs great with a Make N’ Take session! ***Tour included in Field Trip program option.***
