PROGRAMS & OUTREACH STAFFER
Part Time
$15.00/hr start

The Programs & Outreach department of The Scrap Exchange is seeking to grow their team. This department handles all on-site (programs) and off-site (outreach) events associated with The Scrap Exchange, including but not limited to birthday parties, team-building exercises, festivals, and summer camps.

Events on-site are held in our Make N’ Take Room, which is full of our blue barrels filled with reuse and recycled materials, crafting supplies, along with tape, scissors, staplers, and coloring utensils available for use. These events can be field trips from schools, birthday parties, and more.

Events off-site involve loading up one of our Scrap vans and driving to various locations across the state (mostly in the Triangle) to work festivals, conferences, and other celebrations. The van will be full of blue barrels, several additional boxes of crafting materials, staples, tape, and scissors. Staffers will oversee the crafting station and keep the area tidy for the duration of the event.

The Programs & Outreach department has been proud to work the following events: NC Museum of Natural Science’s BugFest, Eno Fest, Beaver Queen Pageant, UNC Fuqua Alumni Day, Cary Spring Daze, Town of Chapel Hill Festifall, and many more. We are also proud to have partnered with Central Park School, Durham Neighborhood Services, Triangle Modern Quilting Guild, Rainbow Collective, Torchlight Residency, and more.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to walk long distances (at least 1 mile) with ease and lift at least 15 pounds

  • Must be available to work weekends - this is a non-negotiable requirement

  • Must have some prior experience with children programming

  • Must be comfortable driving a large van

Details:

  • This position reports to the Programs & Outreach Director in addition to the Programs & Outreach Manager.

  • The Programs & Outreach department is heavily dependent on a busy season for events and then slower portions of the year (busy in the spring and summer, slower in the fall and winter). You could be working 3 events in a week then none for a couple of weeks. This is a great opportunity for someone with a weekday job who would like some income on the weekend. Discussion of consistent hours is available if needed.

  • It’s important to us that we have someone on our team aligned with the ethos of The Scrap Exchange and is able to promote fun through crafting with reusable art. This job requires quite a bit of patience and imagination to make children’s creations come to life.

  • Events can range from 3 hours to 8 hours depending on the client.

If you are interested in this position, please e-mail schmader@scrapexchange.org with your resume or relevant work experience.
