Reuse art programming for your students and staff!
Our Programs & Outreach department has been partnering with North Carolina Public Schools for over 35 years delivering Reuse Art programming to students and teachers. We’re proud to offer engaging and informative programming centered around circular economy practices, reuse art, and sustainability.
Here at The Scrap our team of Reuse Art experts are constantly finding new ways to explore reuse materails with your students and provide unique, educational programming where families and children can craft using reused materials and sharing information on reuse arts and deterring material waste from landfills, and incorporating aspects of the following NCCM standards into our programming.
Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression
Recognize that artistic problems have multiple solutions
Identify and describe shapes, colors, and material types.
Practice acts of environmental protection by learning to reuse

Please keep the following information in mind as you plan your class’s trip to The Scrap Exchange:
We can only host children 4-years-old and up due to liability concerns
We can only manage groups of 30 or less
Field Trips
$225 per 2 hour session
This two hour experience will begin with students recieving a guided tour of our Reuse Arts Center, exploring various areas, including the Cameron Gallery, processing areas, and our Design Center, all while learning about the history of The Scrap Exchange and creative reuse!
The rest of their time will be dedicated to crafting in our Make N’ Take room where students will receive an introduction to Make N’ Take and Reuse Crafting before spending the duration of the session creating a unique project without prompts using unique, pre-loved materials along with scissors, tape and staplers.
An invaluable resource for both students and teachers alike, our field trip program has something to offer for everyone who walks through our doors!
Shopping Trips
$12 per student, 30 minute session
Shopping trips provide students the opportunity to explore and shop at our Reuse Arts Store for scrap! These shopping trips are ideal for gathering materials for creative projects and allow students to shop sustainably. Before your visit, 1-gallon buckets are purchased, allowing students to fill them with items from our store. (Excludes fabric and notions.) Buckets are priced at $12/ea. During the visits, a staff member will guide the class to the appropriate area and help find materials that best meet their project needs. Students will receive a brief tour of the sales floor prior to shopping and receive store maps to use while shopping.
*maximum purchase of 30 per class at one time, Shopping trips do not include items at Scrap Thrift.
In-Classroom Programming
$225/hr
Wanting to share the art of reuse with students but want to avoid the hassle of transporting students and finding chaperones? We’ll bring the crafting to you!
Our offsite events involve our staff bringing 8-10 barrels of large reuse materials ,12-18 bins of smaller crafting supplies along with Crucial crafting tools such as scissors, tape and staplers. During your session our expert scrap staffer will give a quick introduction to The Scrap Exchange and Reuse art and be on hand to assist with crafting during the event!
Tours
$50 per group of 30, 20 minute tour
Take your students on a unique and engaging journey through our unique Reuse Arts Center! This guided tour invites learners to explore spaces like the Cameron Gallery, our materials processing areas, and the Design Center. As they move through the center, students will uncover the history behind The Scrap Exchange and see firsthand how creative reuse turns discarded materials into powerful tools for art, learning, and environmental impact.
