CAMERON GALLERY
FAQ
What are the maximum dimensions my artwork can be?
Maximum dimensions change depending on the type of exhibit. For more details visit the individual submissions forms.
Is there a weight limit for wall hanging items?
We generally like to avoid hanging art that requires lots of heavy duty screws, eyelets, or other attachment methods that damage drywall (i.e.- work that weighs in excess of 20 lbs).
What is the maximum weight for art that hangs from the ceiling?
Artwork that needs to hang from the ceiling should weight around 10 lbs or less. For artists proposing solo shows: please note that the ceiling in the gallery is composed of pressed fiber ceiling tiles on a metal grid and heavier items will need to hang from the grid structure (i.e. – exact placement of hanging elements will be difficult to achieve)
Can I hang my own artwork?
For liability reasons all artwork must be installed by gallery staff. Artists who are accepted for a solo show are allowed to assist gallery staff in mounting their exhibition.
Are there any limits on what I can submit materials-wise??
We do not exhibit artwork that contains live or decaying materials. We also do not accept small, pocket-sized items like jewelry. Our gallery is left unattended most of the day and the risk of theft is too high.
How much will I be paid if my artwork sells?
The commission rate for 2025 is 80% to the artist. Starting in 2026 the commission rate will be 70% to the artist.
What happens if my artwork is damaged or stolen?
The Scrap Exchange does not insure the artwork in our gallery. Please be mindful of this when choosing to submit to our exhibits. We handle problems like damage and loss on a case by case basis, and may offer some compensation to the artist after investigating the situation. But be aware that compensation may not cover the full commission cost of your piece. While it is very rare that we have artwork damaged or stolen, there is no docent for the space and the gallery is left unattended most of the day.
What happens if I am not able to retrieve my artwork within the pick-up window?
Since we have very limited storage space, artwork must be picked up within the time frame stipulated in the call for submissions. Any artwork not collected within three weeks of the closing of an exhibition will become the property of The Scrap Exchange. In extenuating circumstances arrangements can be made with the Gallery Coordinator to extend the pickup deadline.
