are using reclaimed materials in their work.
Gallery openings feature complimentary beverages and snacks and free art-making in our open
studio room.
Openings are held on the third Friday of the month, from
6 to 9pm, in conjunction with Downtown Durham’s Third Friday cultural

Heironymus Bosch Meets Three Artists
Artists Charron Andrews, Sara (No H)
McCreary, and Leigh Werrell.
This exhibit promises a world of dazzle, paintings
that dance, and the everyday.
Charron Andrews’ shrine
assemblages are a garden
of earthly delights made from the cast-offs of daily life. Leigh
Werrell offers a strong line-up of riveting portraits that
are quietly compelling studies of ordinary people. And The Scrap Exchange’s
own Sara McCreary
turns discarded house paint and recycled canvas into wildly
undulating patterns of color that make you want to dance.
Opening Friday, January 15 with live
electronic music provided by the Mystic
Minstrels, the well-read and
witty duo of Matt Gantt and Patrick Brown.
February 19 – March 16
Willa Brigham: I Used to Be Something
Else
I used to be something else before hanging on this wall
I used to be something else before hanging in this hall
...
The buttons, collars, and labels say I used to be a shirt
Worn by one man or another cleaned from their daily dirt
I rode around in pick up trucks, fast cars jeeps and on bikes
But then one day they just let me go, my collar was too tight
...
From the Artist’s Statement
“My desire to recycle has pushed me over
the limit when it comes to conservation, and has me teetering on the edge
of pack rack
but
not quite a hoarder (unless
you talk to my Lovey!).
Gee’s
Bend Quilters and my love of putting colors together. I believe every
bit of clothing can live again the
body of
a comfy quilt. I love textures, strong colors and lots of them. Recycle,
reuse, and regenerate plays right into my love of second life clothing.
Those old
green jeans can live again in the body of a machine piece hand stitched quilt!”
Friday, March 19 – Saturday, April 10
Shedding Light on Metal and Assemblage
featuring three artists:
Michelle Preslik, David Rogers, and Pat Schnieble
The show’s three components of light, metal and assemblage are representative of each of the artist’s work.
Look for Michelle’s cigar light boxes, David Rogers metal sculpture, and Pat Schneible’s historic and personal assemblages.
Opening reception March 19 from 6-9pm.
And as a special treat, Pat has enthusiastically agreed to lead a shadow box make-and-take during the opening, using items from the Scrap. This will be free for our attendees!
